This article deals with the elimination of the position of the Iranian president by means of parliamentary elections. The ideal outcome of this election was to get ride of the position of president as the individual in that office was incurring anger of the country's supreme leader by not heeding the warning of the United Nations to halt the development of the nuclear program. Not only does this demonstrate problems within the interior of the country, it provides worry for surrounding countries, such as Israel, as well as the United States who are concerned with Iran's "terroristic" behavior. Thus, modern Iran still lacks a parliamentary democracy and poses a threat to surrounding areas that make it a target for revolution and war.
As in Persepolis, Iran is a country lacks a unified interior, which in turn makes it a target for war as one group wants to do one thing and another group the opposite. Especially with the development of the nuclear program, Iran has been a country that others are looking out for in fear that nuclear war may be engaged. Thus, after experiencing the war with Iraq as a little girl, I do believe that Marjane would be against the idea of nuclear war due to the devastation it would cause. Also, Marjane would be led to incorporate a parliamentary democracy into Iran's political system for more organization and unification without the devastation of revolution and war.
I definitely agree that Marjane would be against the idea of nuclear program and more for unification, which only seems logical for any person. It's depressing to think that this is even an issue.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Danielle and Will that Marjane would like be very opinionated about this topic. The situation or the story line may have went differently that what we saw in Persepolis in that as an adult she does not have the same innocence or ignorance about the world.
ReplyDeleteI also agree the Marjane would be against the nuclear war but also think it can relate to her parents because its such a talked about topic and and there are two sides and bound to be protests and Marjane parents have taught her to stand up for what she believes in and a way to do that is to protest.
