There is without-a-doubt such a thing as "proper" English in today's society, which is seen as professional and intelligent. Therefore, those that want to show that they possess these two characteristics mold themselves to speak in a way that is respectable. So much of who we are and where we stand in society is determined by our speech. We are judged and tend to judge others based on words spoken.
We also place stereotypes on individuals by the way they speak that usually pertains to race and what kind of person that individual is. While this is not respectable, I do think that "proper" English is to be valued over all others when in a professional situation. However, if you are in your own element and surroundings where professionalism is not required, then speaking in any way should be permitted. Therefore, with this view, I do not believe that all the other "forms" of English are silenced. "Proper" English is just valued and respected more when in a situation where an individual needs to portray professionalism in order to promote him or herself.
I think everyone is pretty much writing the same thing. I wonder what an uneducated person, that does not speak proper English, would say. They would probably say we are selfish, rude, and think we are better than them, but we are only being honest. We have been brought to learn what is proper and what is only meant to be said at home or around friends.
